HAS Oxford’s top cop decided against making a bid for the Met Commissioner job, vacated recently by Sir Paul Stephenson, or is she just biding her time?

The Insider learns from whispers on the social networking site Twitter that not a single prospective candidate has registered any interest in the role – news that may come as a surprise to those who tipped Thames Valley Chief Constable Sara Thornton for the job.

Senior reporter and twitterer @MaxBlainPR of Jane’s Police Review announced: “Hearing unconfirmed rumour that one week since it went up, Home Office have had no interest in Met commissioner job. Will dig for details.”

Car loving county council leader Keith Mitchell was pictured at last weekend’s eco rally with former page three girl Sam Fox, above.

It was a caption writer’s dream... but this is a family newspaper.

Despite a clampdown on rural crime in west Oxfordshire, it seems one potential culprit has slipped through the net.

No sooner had the summer begun when this year’s reports of big cats prowling the county started to emerge.

But fear not, the nay sayers have not deterred west Oxfordshire’s top cop.

Area commander Colin Paine tweeted: “Apparently there really is a big cat in west Oxfordshire! Our wildlife officer assures me the rumours are true.”

Let’s hope a collar is felt soon so we can all sleep easy.

Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron proved “we are all in it together” as he enjoyed his summer holiday.

HE may have splashed out on a holiday in a Tuscan villa (after his budget break earlier this year) but that doesn’t mean David Cameron is not counting the Euros.

Apparently he failed to tip a waitress after ordering a round of coffees.

In keeping with his Big Society idea she had reportedly told him to fetch them himself.

The PM is said to be staying in the £9,700 a week Villa Petrolio, which featured in Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italy, with two other families.

So at least he’s helping the Euro economy.
