A NEW exhibition will showcase what life was like living and working in Bury Knowle House, before it became a picturesque backdrop for days out at the park.

Photographs taken by Etheldreda Janet Laing, who died in 1960, have been put on show at Bury Knowle Library, on North Place.

Ms Laing lived and worked in the house until 1923, before Oxford City Council bought it in 1930.

She used colour photography, a first of its kind at the time, to take snapshots of her daughters Janet and Iris growing up.
