WITNEY teenager Matt Aston says he has come a long way since going to the gym to just lose weight as he prepares to fight in front of 3,000 people.
Having joined the Windrush Boxing and Kickboxing Gym a couple of years ago, he took up the sport.
And now he is set for his seventh white-collar boxing match at Milton Keynes Planet Ice tonight.
The event, promoted by All-Star, features eight world-title fights and Aston goes into his contest on the back of an impressive one-round win at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford.
The tyre-fitter said: “I used to be a little fat kid and I just went to the gym to lose some weight.
“I always fancied having a go at boxing.
“I really enjoyed it and took it from there.
“Now I’m boxing on a huge show and there could be 3,000 people there. The atmosphere should be something else.”
Aston hopes to take a good following with him from Witney and says he plans to take his supporters on an enjoyable journey.
He said: “I really enjoy boxing and I want to take it as far as I can.
“But the main thing is that I have fun and if that goes somewhere, that’s great.”
