CAMERON Brannagan admitted he felt for the travelling Oxford United supporters after they witnessed another defeat in Sky Bet League One.

Karl Robinson’s side are still waiting for a first league success on the road after losing 2-1 at AFC Wimbledon.

For once the U’s did not sell out their allocation at Kingsmeadow, but more than 600 did make the trip to south-west London.

And Brannagan, who scored the visitors’ goal, was bitterly disappointed they again had little to shout about.

He said: “When I was walking off I could see them and I just felt sorry.

“I feel horrible because I’m giving my best but it’s just not happening at the minute.

“People can say they’re not this or that, they’re rubbish – we’re not but at the minute we’re just not doing the right things that we’re good at.

“I can only apologise because they’ve come out in numbers again and supported us.

“I can’t thank them enough because no matter what they’re always with us.”

Brannagan’s strike was his first as a professional, but the result meant the midfielder took little joy in it.

The struggle for results, which means United are second bottom in the table, will inevitably lead to questions about Robinson’s position.

But Brannagan insisted the attention should be on the squad only.

He said: “It frustrates me because I really want to do well for him, and so do the boys.

“It’s not a lack of effort, everyone is giving it their all, it’s just not happening at the minute.

“The gaffer will always give us the best chance to go and win.

“It’s not (about) pointing the finger at the gaffer, no chance.

“We’re in a rut at the minute and there’s only us that can get out of it. No-one can do it for us.”
