OXFORD United are expecting to unveil a new board member, according to owner Sumrith ‘Tiger’ Thanakarnjanasuth.

It is expected to be Erick Thohir, after Tiger told a fans’ forum last month an investor who owns part of Inter Milan was in the process of joining.

The Indonesian businessman is chairman and the second largest shareholder of the Serie A giants, while he owned MLS club DC United in Washington until earlier this year.

It is thought he will buy a minority stake in the U's, rather than a deal for majority share as reported elsewhere.

Once cleared, the 48-year-old would be the third board member appointed by Thanakarnjanasuth, following the confirmation of Zaki Nuseibah and Horst Geicke last month.

A new finance director is also due to be confirmed in the next few days.

Tiger told the U’s website: “Off the field we hope to announce a couple of new faces very soon.

“One is a new member of the board, who we are just waiting for approval for from the EFL.

“There was an unexpected delay last week, just some paperwork that held things up a little, but it remains a very positive appointment for the club, as does our new finance director who we will announce later this week once they have had chance to meet everyone.”

There will also be two departures from the backroom team – head of physical performance Scott Daly and kit man Mark Jarrett – who are moving on to new jobs outside football.

Saturday’s victory over Plymouth Argyle eased the pressure which had been building on head coach Karl Robinson and his side during an eight-game winless run.

And Tiger paid tribute to the unity within the camp to halt the slump.

He said: “I so wanted to say something last week to try and reassure the supporters, but how to do that without it sounding like the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’!

“I work so hard with Karl and the coaching, recruitment, analysis and medical teams behind the scenes – everyone is so professional and we were all so frustrated by the results.

“I want to place on record my thanks to everyone involved for sticking together through what was a difficult run of results.

“People talk about team bonding but the last few weeks have truly shown what a strong unit we have at this club.”
