RACING: Hammersly Lake is set to fly the flag for Charlie Longsdon’s Chipping Norton stables in the American Grand National at Far Hills, New Jersey, on Saturday.

The ten-year-old gelding will be having a second crack at the $450,000 Grade 1 hurdle, having finished fifth, less than five lengths behind Mr Hot Stuff 12 months ago.

Hammersly will be Longsdon’s third runner in the race, having saddled the ill-fated Sharp Rise to finish third in 2016.

SHOWJUMPING: Chipping Norton’s Natasha Seely won the Dodson & Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Second Round at Parwood Equestrian Centre, Guildford.

With her 13 year-old bay gelding, Alpino R, she took first place in a time of 38.25secs.

SWIMMING: Witney & District SC came third in the first round of the National Arena League in Redditch.

The club scored 188 points in the six-team competition in Division 2 of the West Midland region.

Witney’s swimmer of the match was Jessica Miller after her victories in the under 13 100m front crawl and 100m backstroke.

She also won the 4x50m medley and front crawl relays with Eleanor Perks, Lucy Howarth and Erin Stewart.

Maya Thorsdottir-Saldana, also excelled, winning the under 11 50m butterfly and breaststroke, as well as the 4x50m medley and front crawl relays with Katie Franklin, Hattie Lever and Darcy Grant.

Georgia Duff won the open 100m butterfly.
