OXFORD Hawks were agonisingly denied their first win of the Investec Women’s Conference West season.
Having led 2-0 at half-time, the hosts were pegged back by leaders Olton & West Warwicks, who made it 2-2 with the game’s final play.
The form book went out of the window in the first half and Hawks got what their bright play deserved.
Katie Lowe finished a patient move to open the scoring, before Becky Odlin made it 2-0 after fine work from Jess Amps.
The home side continued to look strong after the break, but Olton pulled a goal back 15 minutes from time.
Some excellent defending appeared to have secured all three points, but in the last seconds the visitors scored from a short corner to claim a draw.
Witney were beaten in a
double-header against South League Division 1’s top two sides.
Hayley Dobson hit a second-half hat-trick on Saturday, but leaders Surbiton 2nd had already built a 5-0 lead on the way to a 6-3 victory.
Helen Backhouse put them in front at Oxford University, but the home side hit back to inflict a 4-1 defeat on Witney, who are sixth.
Oxford are rooted to the bottom of Division 2 after a 2-0 home defeat to PHC Chiswick, who scored through early short corners.
