KARL Robinson has challenged Oxford United to win their ‘cup final’ tomorrow and climb out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.

Victory would extend their unbeaten run to six games in Sky Bet League One and take the U’s above Scunthorpe United, who are 17th in the table.

And with games in the Checkatrade Trophy and Emirates FA Cup to follow, the clash at Glanford Park is United’s last chance to pick up points for a fortnight.

Robinson views it as a big opportunity against a side who have lost their last five league games.

“We’re really excited to go there on the back of our performances, but it’s two weeks until we play again in the league, so it’s a massive game – a cup final,” the head coach said.

“Sometimes you get teams at good times and we just hope that they’re not in that moment where they feel aggressive and take it out on us.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re aware of all eventualities and go into the game with a calmness and a calculated plan.”

United have not gone six league games without defeat in almost three years, but a promising run was needed just to get back in contact with the rest of the division after a dreadful start.

Robinson said: “Honestly, I’m still embarrassed.

“It will remain until I achieve what I came here to do, because that’s how proud I am about what I want to achieve.

“It’s not something I enjoy looking at.”

United will train at Rotherham United today and first year professional Aaron Heap was due to be on board.

There is a slight doubt over Samir Carruthers (knee) and the 17-year-old has caught Robinson’s eye for the under 23 side.

He said: “Samir’s knee is a little bit sore after the under 23 game the other day.

“We’re waiting to see the reaction. It’s not bad, it’s just little things when you have injuries in that area it can flare up.

“Aaron Heap has been sensational for the 23s and training with the first team. He will travel.”
