KARL Robinson took it as a compliment that first-team coach Shaun Derry has been linked with the vacant AFC Wimbledon job.

The U’s No 2 is believed to have spoken to the Sky Bet League One club about the role this week.

Derry, Wally Downes, Russell Slade and Kevin Nolan are all understood to have been interviewed – although it has been reported the latter has ruled himself out of the running – with the Dons hoping to have a new face in place before the weekend.

Wimbledon have been without a manager since Neil Ardley left by mutual consent two weeks ago.

U’s boss Robinson believes it speaks volumes about the talent at the club when people are linked to jobs or moves elsewhere.

“It’s great news, if that’s the case, as people are talking about one of our members of staff,” he said.

“I’ve not spoken to him about it.

“I think it’s fantastic – it’s like when you’ve got players that people want, it means you’re doing well.”
