WITNEY Ladies went into the Christmas break on a high after claiming a 5-2 win at home to high-flying Oxford University.

Five different players got on the scoresheet for what was only the side’s fourth win in South League Division 1 this season.

Twice they came from behind to level in the first half, thanks to strikes from Ellie Norton and Sunny Wallis.

A missed penalty flick proved costly for the students after the break, with Abi Flory, Sam Saunders and Millie Hartwell scoring to seal an excellent victory over their third-placed opponents.

Floor Timmer’s goal was in vain as Oxford were knocked out of the England Hockey Cup, going down 2-1 at home to Henley.

Their second XI lost 2-1 on penalty flicks following a 2-2 draw with Sonning, where Amy Tse and Lexi Roberts were on target.

Wallingford made it five games unbeaten and three wins in a row when beating Marlow 2nd 2-0 at home in Trysports Three Counties League Premier 1.

Claudia Oosterveld and Jemima Dashwood were on target.
