NORTH Leigh joint manager Craig Dore struggled to sum up his side’s miraculous escape from relegation.

A terrific 3-3 draw with Division 1 Central champions Peterborough Sports ensured the Millers secured their Evo-Stik South League survival by three points.

It completed an astonishing turnaround for a side who looked doomed heading into the run-in.

Most people had written them off, but Dore was adamant his side could escape – and they went on to collect 12 points from their final six games.

“I’m absolutely lost for words to be honest,” he said.

“The last six weeks has seen an immense effort, and a 3-3 draw with Peterborough summed up our efforts.

“I’ve had full belief in these boys right from the start. We knew it would be a hard task, but we’ve shown what we are capable of.

“I hope we can keep these boys together and push this club forward.

“We will regroup and hopefully be in a much better position this time next year.”

They will do so without Henry Landers, whose stellar season saw him win all three of the club’s end-of-season awards.

The former Oxford City youth player was the choice of the club’s supporters, players and management.

His performances have caught the eye and the 18-year-old will be moving up three divisions after signing for Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United.

Magpies boss Alan Devonshire said: “Henry’s goals were instrumental in North Leigh’s escape from relegation.

“He is a goalscoring attacking midfield player with a bright future.”

Dore was delighted with the performance against Peterborough.

He said: “Their manager told me what a good side we were, which is nice to hear from the champions, and we have just got to cut out all the mistakes we made, and I am sure we will do well next season.

“We have things in place for next year, we will have ten or 11 new youth teams and will be building this club back up again.”
