SUMMER signing Danny Rowe scored twice as Oxford City beat AFC Rushden & Diamonds 3-1 at Marsh Lane.

The winger’s brace helped Mark Jones’ side to their second pre-season victory, with Kyran Wiltshire also finding the net.

City had signed defender Finn Tapp 24 hours earlier and, after impressing on trial, he made an immediate impression upon putting pen to paper.

The former Milton Keynes Dons man’s long ball found Rowe, who opened the scoring on eight minutes.

City made it 2-0 on 55 minutes when Wiltshire finished off a fine move.

And Rowe scored his second with a quarter of an hour to play, once again running on to a Tapp pass before finding the net.

There was time for Rushden to reduce the deficit, Jack Bowen slotting past goalkeeper Steven Caro, but City were already out of sight.

Mark Jones’ side are next in action tomorrow night when they travel to Beaconsfield Town.

North Leigh found their scoring boots when hammering Milton United 11-1 away from home.

Tyriq Hunte, George Seacole, Callum McNish and Billy Gillett all netted twice.

Ekow Elliott, Morgan Williams and Josh Dutton-Black were also on the scoresheet.

The Millers continue their preparations when they host Dunstable Town on Saturday.

Didcot Town were beaten 2-0 by Redditch United in their first home pre-season friendly.

Goals either side of the break saw Jamie Heapy’s side suffer defeat at the Loop Meadow Stadium.

Didcot were awarded a penalty late on, but Seth Humphries saw his spot-kick saved.

The Railwaymen were also busy bolstering their squad over the weekend, with Brett Gardner, Kieran Collins, Joe Green, Connor Mattimore and Mark Francis signing.

Andy Sinnott has also returned to the club as first team coach.

Didcot are next in action on Wednesday when they take on Shrivenham at Cirencester Town.

Kidlington earned a 1-0 win at Flackwell Heath.

Julian McCalmon’s side return to action on Saturday at home to Highworth Town.

A youthful Wantage Town side fell to a 7-1 defeat at Windsor.

Tom Stanley netted as the visitors only trailed 2-1 at half-time, but the home side dominated the second period.

All four of their goals were scored by trialists.
