KARL Robinson believes Oxford United have every chance of causing an upset against West Ham United tonight.

The U's face the Premier League side at the Kassam Stadium as they bid to reach the last-16 of the Carabao Cup for the first time in 21 years.

It comes a year to the day since United lost 3-0 to Manchester City at this stage of the competition and Robinson says his side must approach the game with confidence.

He said: “Call us egotistical maybe, but we thought we could beat Man City.

"Without that thought process, you’re never going to achieve an upset.

“You have to have strong belief that your players can compete and there’s no reason why we can’t.”

United produced a record-breaking away win with their 6-0 thrashing of Lincoln City on Saturday, while the Hammers beat Manchester United 2-0 24 hours later.

With both sides fresh from those victories, a bumper crowd is expected for tonight's all-ticket game, and Robinson says it is important his players impress.

He said: “It’s about galvanising the next generation and making sure your kids, and your kids’ kids, wear the yellow of Oxford.

“These are the moments where one or two young fans might see something they like and go and support their local team.

“We all want this football club to be here for another 100 years and little moments like tonight may help hold onto that.”
