GILLINGHAM boss Steve Evans believes Oxford United benefitted from a bit of luck in their 6-0 win over Lincoln City last Saturday.

The Scotsman's side travel to the Kassam Stadium tomorrow to face an in-form U's team, who also beat West Ham United 4-0 in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

While United's performance against Lincoln impressed Evans, the veteran manager claimed the timing of the goals favoured Karl Robinson's men.

“You can see how it sometimes is, when goals come at key stages, they get a couple of lucky goals in the second half and Lincoln dip a little. Self-belief kicks in and that’s a big thing," he told Kent Online.

“But it won’t affect what we do, it may affect what personnel and what shape we play, because that is part of the analysis you do for every game - but it won’t make us fear them.”

The victory at Sincil Bank was United's record away win and came on the same day that Premier League champions Manchester City dispatched Watford 8-0.

Evans added: “It was between them and Manchester City for performance of the weekend wasn’t it? Once again Karl Robinson has put a fine side together.

“They were very good and the reality of it was that it could have been more.

"Was it Lincoln having a complete off day or was it Oxford having a good day? They have got good players and will test us fully."
