CHRIS Cadden always believed Oxford United could string wins together – but even he admits the scale of the last week is beyond his wildest dreams.

Gillingham were routed 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, following up the big victories over West Ham (4-0) and Lincoln City (6-0).

It has seen the U’s bag a stunning 13 goals, all the while extending a run of clean sheets which now stands at five in a row.

They were quick to make the points safe on Saturday as James Henry’s double sandwiched a Matty Taylor strike, all before half-time.

Cadden was quick to appreciate the talent in the squad when he joined on loan in the summer, but the last few days has been something else.

“At the start of the season I thought our performances had been great and a run like this had been coming,” he said.

“I thought we were a bit unlucky and I said to my dad I thought we’d give teams a going over if we get the rub of the green.

“It’s easy to say I saw it coming, but maybe not six, four, three – that’s a bit out of my imagination.”

Cadden was among the players restored to the starting line-up after being rested altogether for the Carabao Cup tie against the Hammers in midweek.

And while the right back was disappointed to miss out on a famous night, he credited boss Karl Robinson for ensuring the squad did not let their standards drop after such a high-profile success.

“I was gutted, those are the games you want to be involved in, but from the stands it was an absolute pleasure to watch,” he said.

“The gaffer’s on at us all the time. Anybody can beat anybody in this league.

“We knew Gillingham were going to come out at us and we had a wee scare at the start of the second half, but I thought we were pretty comfortable as a back four.”

He added: “At the start of the week we knew it was a massive one for us.

“We’ve been absolutely brilliant and not come off it one bit.

“Some teams rest on their laurels, but the gaffer doesn’t let us do that.”

The victory lifted Robinson’s side to tenth in Sky Bet League One and Cadden is confident they have the strength in depth to stay there.

He said: “You saw on Wednesday night (against West Ham) how good the boys were with all the changes.

“With the squad there I think the top ten is definitely where we belong.”
