OXFORD United entertain Hartlepool United on Emirates FA Cup third round weekend - one of the most treasured dates in the English football calendar.

With the Vanarama National League side 60 league places below the U's, a victory for the visitors tomorrow would certainly represent an upset.

Karl Robinson's side will be desperate to avoid playing an unwanted part in what would be one of the stories of the weekend, but in recent years they have staged Cup shocks of their own.

If this year's edition is anything like some of these matches, United fans are in for a treat.

Neal Maupay came off the bench to score a late penalty as United were edged out by Brentford.

The Championship side's top scorer sent Simon Eastwood the wrong way with ten minutes remaining after he was fouled by John Mousinho.

While the U's were left disappointed by the defeat, an injury to Shandon Baptiste just ten minutes into his comeback was of longer term concern.

The midfielder fell awkwardly and was stretchered off, with Karl Robinson 'in tears' at the 20-year-old's rotten luck.

2017: Rotherham United 2, Oxford United 3

United staged a fine display on the road to dump out second tier Rotherham.

Ryan Taylor put the U's ahead shortly before half-time, after Chris Maguire had an earlier penalty saved.

Danny Ward equalised six minutes after the break, but a Phil Edwards header put United back in front with ten minutes to go.

Michael Appleton's side wrapped up victory with a glorious move finished by Kane Hemmings, with Tom Adeyemi's consolation proving academic.

2016: Oxford United 3, Swansea City 2

United's victory over Premier League Swansea City was arguably their most memorable Cup win of recent times.

The U's were flying high in Sky Bet League Two, but were undoubtedly underdogs for the visit of a side three leagues above them.

Jefferson Montero's opener meant a shock was even more unlikely, but Liam Sercombe levelled from the penalty spot just before half-time.

From then, it was the Kemar Roofe show.

The forward struck twice to put Michael Appleton's side 3-1 up and they held on, despite Bafetimbi Gomis's reply.

2014: Charlton Athletic 2, Oxford United 2; Oxford United 0, Charlton Athletic 3

Johnny Mullins scores Oxford United's opener in the 2-2 draw at Charlton Athletic

For many this felt like the Cup tie that would never end after it was postponed twice due to The Valley's waterlogged pitch.

But the delay was almost worth the wait for United, as Johnny Mullins and Scott Davies put the U's 2-0 up before half-time.

Michael Morrison pulled a goal back in the second half, before Yann Kermorgant forced a replay with seven minutes left.

Kermorgant was again the U's nemisis in the replay as he scored twice, with Danny Green completing a 3-0 win.

2013: Oxford United 0, Sheffield United 3

The U's failed to take their chances as they were dumped out 3-0 by Sheffield United.

Justin Richards and Tom Craddock both spurned excellent opportunites to equalise after Tony McMahon put the visitors ahead.

Dave Kitson - another player who would go on to join United - was also on the scoresheet, with Nick Blackman completing the rout.
