MARCUS Browne admitted he would have a sleepless night on Saturday reliving his big chance to score for Oxford United at St James’ Park.

The Middlesbrough loanee’s sublime first touch took him past a defender and through on goal with 20 minutes remaining.

But under pressure he could not get a clean connection as the Emirates FA Cup fourth round tie at Newcastle United finished goalless.

“I’ll probably lie in bed and you just visualise being in that moment again and think ‘what if I did this or that’,” he said.

“But you have a split-second to decide and when you’re getting pressurised at the same time it does make it an awful lot more difficult.

“I did well to get it towards the goal but it just wouldn’t get down for me.”

Nathan Holland also forced a good save in stoppage time, which meant despite the terrific result away to a Premier League side, United came off slightly frustrated with a draw.

It did not come as a surprise to Browne.

He said: “I would have believed it (before the game) that we could be disappointed we’d not won.

“I think the lads have shown a great account of themselves in the cup games they’ve played in with West Ham and City.

“Against big clubs we’re going to come at you and give it a right go. We did that again.

“The squad is quite young, but the commitment and fight we have for each other is massive.

“As a young player these are the moments you want to be in, being here in front of this many people.

“All in all we had a clear game plan and everyone stuck to it.”

The 52,000-strong crowd included 3,710 away fans, who gave St James’ Park a splash of yellow in the upper tier.

Browne said: “The fans up there were outstanding, we heard them through the game and they really did push us on.

“We’ll take it back to the Kassam, it will be full.”
