TOM Squires has an outside chance of a podium finish heading into the final day of the RS:X World Championships tomorrow.

The 26-year-old, from Kingston Bagpuize, is ninth going into the men’s fleet medal event in Sorrento, Australia, after winning today's final race.

Squires admitted he had to lay it on the line after underperforming in the day’s first two races, but was pleased to put himself in contention.

He said: "I really had to fight for it out there today. After a shocker in the first race I really had to give myself a shake down and get two stand-out races.

"An average second race made it make-or-break on the last.

“I took the bullet and secured ninth going into tomorrow’s medal race.

“The guys I was fighting for the top ten were some of the best in the fleet.

“I’m super stoked to be in the medal race.”
