RISING star Jay Warren has become Oxford City Stars’ first signing for next season.

Coming on the back of Ross Miller and Josh Florey rejoining from last term’s squad, the 19-year-old looks an excellent capture for new coach Dean Birrell.

Arriving on a ‘two-way’ deal, he will play on a season-long loan from Swindon Wildcats 2.

Having represented England at age group level, he bagged 24 goals and 43 assists for three teams in his second full senior season.

It included a strike on his debut for the Wildcats’ first team.

Several clubs were interested in taking Warren, but Stars were seen as the best place to continue his development.

He said: “I’m very excited to sign for Oxford. It’s a great club and has a great fan base behind them, when I’ve played at Oxford the atmosphere has been amazing.

“I’m really looking forward to making the next step in my hockey career and developing my game more.

“I’m very grateful for the chance that Dean is giving me.”

Birrell added: “Jay is a quick forward who knows where the net is.

“I’m expecting big things from him this season and I’m pleased he chose to sign for us.”
