OXFORD City Stars have moved to re-sign the Shone brothers for the new season.

Olly and Sam moved to Oxpens a year ago from Bristol Pitbulls and have committed to a second campaign with the National League Division 1 South side.

After a positive start to their time with the Stars, they were happy to return under new boss Dean Birrell.

Sam, 29, will bolster their attacking options after being hampered by fitness issues before the season was cancelled due to coronavirus.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back next year.

“I feel like I’ve got some unfinished business, I’m gutted with how my season finished being out with an injury and missing the action.

“It looks like we’ve got a really good squad coming together and whatever the format is for the season I’m really looking forward to getting back on the ice.

“I’m sure everyone is keeping safe and well and hopefully we’ll see you all soon.”

Olly, 27, adds to the roster’s strength in depth at the other end of the ice.

He said: “Thank you to all the fans for their support last season, I’m looking forward to getting back and going again.

“Thanks to the Oxford management team for having me back and I can’t wait to get back on the ice with the boys and get to it.”

Birell, who is building a squad despite not knowing when conditions will allow competitive ice hockey to restart, said: “Sam and Olly are both committed players, who have made a good contribution to the club.

“They’re hard-working players with a great attitude and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
