EVERYONE’S place in the Oxford United side is under the spotlight while they struggle for results, says boss Karl Robinson.

Injuries have hampered the side at the start of the season, but there are also key players yet to hit form.

The focus has been on goalkeeper Simon Eastwood in particular this week, following a mistake which allowed Andrew Shinnie to score from a free-kick in Tuesday’s defeat at Charlton Athletic.

It intensified calls from some fans for Jack Stevens to be brought into the side for tomorrow’s trip to Fleetwood Town.

Robinson, who backed his players publicly after the loss at the Valley, stressed it was about reaching a “tipping point”.

He said: “Not just Eastwood, everybody could be dropped.

“I think it’s so hard for a manager to publicly criticise any player, but equally it’s so hard for fans to understand how much a player hurts when he knows he’s had a bad game.

“I think Easty’s under no illusions, he knows some of his performances this year haven’t been to a level we know he can get to. But we know it’s in there.

“Everybody gets to a tipping point and we’ll see how that progresses over the forthcoming days, weeks, months.”

He added: “Everyone will have their opinions.

“It’s so easy stood on the outside making decisions and not knowing the full truth behind the teams you pick, or the things that might be not quite right.

“There are so many things when you’re selecting a team.”

Robinson felt the only way out of United’s slump was the same as it ever was – hard work.

There remains a belief the approach which took them to the Sky Bet League One play-off final last season will deliver again.

Robinson said: “I’m not panicking. I know the league table doesn’t look great, but it’s ridiculously tight, just keep calm and do the right things.

“Stick to your beliefs that you know have won games before.

“It might not be this weekend, it might be the weekend after, but it will certainly click.”

Getting closer to a fully-fit squad would also help.

Robinson said: “You have squads to cope with injuries, but not constant injuries for a long period.

“That’s the bit which is difficult for managers, you’ve got to accept the rough with the smooth and make sure the players believe in what is right.

“The work ethic and togetherness is certainly still here.”
