AFTER hitting the reset button over a blank weekend, Oxford United have a chance to start a new phase of the season tonight.

A fortnight on from beating Rochdale 3-1 in their previous Sky Bet League One clash, Karl Robinson’s men get back to fighting for three points against Crewe Alexandra.

Two previous coronavirus-related postponements in the fixture go some way to explaining the U’s multiple games in hand on the rest of the division.

And after a stuttering start to the campaign in every sense, there is now a chance to find some rhythm, with 14 games scheduled in less than eight weeks.

Having been part of a squad which has drawn breath over the last few days, defender Elliott Moore is anxious to get cracking.

He said: “With the squad coming back to full fitness, people are fighting for places now, which we haven’t had for a long period because of the injuries.

“Now we’ve got a lot of games coming up in a short period.

“There is a line under (the season so far) and we begin again now. Hopefully we get off to a good start.”

Generating momentum has proved to be tough so far amid all the postponements.

One area which does need improvement if they are going to climb the table is in the goals against column.

United have not kept a clean sheet in the league this season, although the first shutout in almost nine months did come in last week’s Papa John’s Trophy win at Walsall.

It is something Moore, who was rested for the game, would dearly love to replicate this evening.

He said: “We’ve been leaking goals and we have to correct that.

“It starts from the forward players and ends with us and the goalie.

“The most important is the three points, but after that it’s a clean sheet, so we’re desperate to get that.”

He added: “I would have loved to have been involved (at Walsall), but I’m happy they got a clean sheet and got through to the next round.”

  • OXFORD City are also in action tonight.

They host Chippenham Town in Vanarama National League South, looking to avoid a third straight defeat in the competition.
