OXFORD United want to play this Tuesday to ease their fixture backlog, says Karl Robinson.

The U's suffered a seventh postponement of the season when yesterday's match at Northampton Town was washed out.

It means they still have 26 Sky Bet League One games remaining, plus at least one in the Papa John's Trophy, with less than four months of the campaign left.

As it stands, United's next match is the visit of Bristol Rovers next Saturday.

But head coach Robinson revealed United hope to rearrange the home match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, February 13 or the trip to Ipswich Town a week later.

If they cannot bring either game forward at short notice, the U's will look to set up a friendly for tomorrow.

Robinson said: “We’re trying to arrange a behind closed doors game for Monday.

"We’ll be asking if Ipswich or Wigan could chuck one of those games on Tuesday.

"That might free up a Saturday later down the road.

"If that doesn’t happen and we next play on Saturday, it’s less than four days per game if the season carries on for ten extra days.

"If it doesn’t, it’ll be 3.4. For 27 games, that's an incredible ask.
