ANOTHER old-school English football ground is no more – but Oxford United can look back at plenty of happy memories from Bootham Crescent.

York City’s 89-year-old stadium closed its doors last week without getting a proper send-off, after their Vanarama National League North game against AFC Fylde was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak.

It has been one of United’s more successful destinations over the years, with ten wins and five draws in 22 visits.

Their first trip came on October 26, 1962, the U’s first football league season, when Bud Houghton and Alan Willey secured a 2-1 success.

Meanwhile, United lost just two of their final ten games there.

Their last three visits were all in Sky Bet League Two, starting with a 0-0 draw under Chris Wilder four days before Christmas 2013.

In November 2014, 18-year-old striker James Roberts scored the only goal in a 1-0 win, before Danny Hylton and Kemar Roofe netted in a 2-1 victory early in the U’s 2015/16 promotion season ten months later.
