OXFORD United have been hit by two injury blows ahead of tomorrow's visit of Sky Bet League One leaders Peterborough United.

Sam Winnall will not be available after the ankle injury sustained at MK Dons on Saturday turned out to be worse than initially feared.

There are also concerns over James Henry's hamstring, with the U's set to decide this afternoon whether it is worth risking the midfielder for the game against Posh.

The manner of Winnall's injury is frustrating for United, after the striker rolled his ankle during a challenge with Dons player Scott Fraser just six minutes after entering the action as a substitute.

It comes after the U's confirmed last week that Marcus McGuane will miss the rest of the season with a thigh problem, reducing the options available to head coach Karl Robinson.

He said: “The ankle’s that swollen we can’t send him for a scan until towards the end of this week.

"It’s a bit more serious than we thought in relation to the severity of the swelling.

"We’ve been hit with two big blows in the last two weeks, obviously Marcus McGuane and him.

"When we have our players fit we’re a very good team.

"Now our squad’s going to be challenged and we feel it’s good enough to do that.

"We need to make sure we’re capable of winning more games than we have over the last few weeks."

Meanwhile, Henry's hamstring complaint could force him to miss the Peterborough clash, although it is not as serious as Winnall's injury.

“McGuane, Henry and Winnall are big players at this level and we know we’re going to suffer because of it," Robinson said.

“He (Henry) still had the hamstring issue when he came on.

"He feels a bit better today, so we’re just playing that one by ear.

"The next 48 hours will give us a better understanding of what’s wrong with it and how long it’s going to be.

"We’ll make that decision early afternoon today.”
