JOHN Mousinho has been elected to the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) new Players’ Board.

The Oxford United club captain was one of 13 successful candidates representing the Premier League, all three English Football League (EFL) divisions, the Women’s Super League and former PFA members.

The Players’ Board was formed as part of changes to the organisation’s governance.

Karl Robinson: Oxford United still in play-off race

There were 63 applicants overall, with Crewe Alexandra defender Omar Beckles the other representative from Sky Bet League One.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said: “Football, now more than ever, needs a strong PFA.

“With this collective unity, I have no doubt that the players will represent the game’s best interests, and we will continue to be the strongest sportspersons union in the world.”

Mousinho has not played for United since the 4-0 win over Northampton Town on December 15 and had knee surgery a month later, which ended his season.

The centre back has joined Karl Robinson's coaching staff and is on a UEFA Pro Licence course this week.
