ADAM Smith stole the show with a second-half hat-trick as Oxford United Under 18s thrashed Leyton Orient 5-0.

The 17-year-old forward struck three well-taken goals, after captain Jack Gardner and Tyler Goodrham had put the U's in charge before the break.

It meant United have a morale-boosting win to take into their second home game in 72 hours, against Gillingham this afternoon.

Gardner took advantage of panic in the Orient defence to break the deadlock, slotting into an unguarded net from 12 yards after a deep cross caused chaos.

It was not long before Goodrham doubled the lead, executing a smart give and go before bursting into the area and shooting into the far corner.

Smith took over after the break, using his pace and power to devastating effect.

The teenager's first goal saw him gain possession on the halfway line, race away from his marker and calmly finish past the goalkeeper.

Smith's second was equally impressive, flicking the ball up to meet a cross and volleying into the net from close range.

His third came in more straightforward fashion, as he was given the freedom of the penalty area to finish from ten yards.
