JOHN Mousinho is the new chair of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

The Oxford United club captain was elected at a meeting of the organisation's new 13-man Players' Board, which was chosen last month.

Mousinho takes over from Ben Purkiss and is assisted by vice-chair Peter Vincenti, the former Coventry City winger.

The duo were members of the previous management committee, which had overseen changes to the PFA's leadership structure.

Mousinho said: "It is an honour to represent our members as elected chair of the Players’ Board, and I look forward to continuing the organisation's vital work.

"We have a diverse, experienced and knowledgeable Players' Board who are perfectly positioned to take the union forward.

"I would like to thank the outgoing Players' Board members, particularly Ben Purkiss, who has mentored me throughout my time at the PFA and has been instrumental in his role as chair."

The U's skipper was one of 13 successful candidates for the Players' Board, representing the Premier League, all three English Football League (EFL) divisions, the Women’s Super League and former PFA members.

Mousinho has made well over 500 appearances for nine clubs during a 16-year career, including 132 for United.
