NATHAN Holland’s first spell at Oxford United will always be remembered for his last-minute volley against Newcastle United.

The injury-time strike took the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round replay against Premier League opponents to extra time, although the U's did bow out after the additional 30 minutes.

Holland’s 12 games at United in early 2020 still represents the bulk of his senior appearances, but he has shone at youth level.

Previous manager said:

Terry Westley, then West Ham’s academy manager, said of Holland in February 2017: “When you have the chance to laud these young players then you have to do it – and he did remind me of a young Ryan Giggs.

“Nathan has that rare quality of being able to run as quickly with the ball as without it — and that is very unusual.

“He covers the ground with the ball, a little like Steve McManaman did for Liverpool.

“I have worked with Nathan Redmond and Demarai Gray and they used to run with the ball, stop and change direction before going again.

“This boy is different to those two and there are not many like that now, who can carry the ball quickly and go past people.”
