OXFORD United Women moved fourth in FA Women’s National League Southern Premier with an impressive 3-0 win over Bridgwater United.

Goals from joint top-scorers Carly Johns and Beth Lumsden, either side of a Sophie Baker strike, ended the Somerset side’s unbeaten record as the U’s leapfrogged their opponents in the table.

The victory also maintained United’s perfect record at Court Place Farm, which now stands at three wins from three.

Johns had already struck the woodwork with a cross-shot when she put the U’s ahead after 12 minutes.

The forward was fouled in the penalty area and took responsibility from the spot to beat the goalkeeper, who dived the right way.

It was not long before United were 2-0 up, as Baker found the net midway through the half.

Daisy McLachlan’s through ball and her teammate’s assured finish said everything about a side full of confidence.

The U’s weathered a spell of Bridgwater pressure before the break and their two-goal lead remained intact after the restart.

New signing Rachel Panting came on for her debut with 20 minutes remaining and United scored their third shortly after.

The in-form Lumsden found the top corner with a free-kick from just outside the penalty area, putting her level with Johns on six goals for the season.

Sarah King could have made it four late on, while Rose Kite’s excellent save ensured the U’s left with a clean sheet as well as three points.
