OXFORD United fell out of the Sky Bet League One play-off places on their unexpected blank weekend.
The U’s trip to Wigan Athletic was postponed less than four hours before kick-off after seven players tested positive for Covid.
Their promotion rivals took advantage, as wins for Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday saw United drop from sixth to eighth in League One.
The Black Cats now occupy the final play-off spot after beating Ipswich Town 2-0, thanks to late goals from Luke O’Nien and Aiden McGeady.
Meanwhile, Wednesday survived a scare at Accrington Stanley after going 3-0 up through former U’s man Chey Dunkley, Theo Corbeanu and Florian Kamberi.
Lewis Mansell and Joel Mumbongo gave the hosts hope of a comeback, but Darren Moore’s side held on.
Leaders Plymouth Argyle lost 2-0 at Charlton, but there were wins for the other three teams in the top six who were in action.
Rotherham United leapfrogged Wigan into second with a 3-1 home victory over Cambridge United.
Fourth-placed Wycombe Wanderers and MK Dons, in fifth, secured 1-0 triumphs over Bolton Wanderers and Burton Albion respectively.
Portsmouth went ninth, just two points behind United, after beating AFC Wimbledon 2-1.

Fleetwood Town, who the U’s are scheduled to play on Tuesday, lost 2-1 at home to Morecambe thanks to Cole Stockton’s stoppage-time lob from the halfway line.
United are expecting to play in midweek, but an update is expected tomorrow.
