OXFORD United Women emphatically ended Ipswich Town’s perfect league record with a 3-1 triumph at Court Place Farm.

The Tractor Girls arrived with 11 wins out of 11 in FA Women’s National League Southern Premier, while they had conceded just three goals all season.

But the U’s took just 48 minutes to double that tally as Beth Lumsden, Daisy McLachlan and Sophie Baker sealed victory.

Sarah Brasero-Carreira’s late goal was nothing more than a consolation for Ipswich, as United cut the leaders’ advantage to five points in their final game of 2021.

The U’s have been unstoppable at home this season, with Lumsden leading from the front – and she had the ball in the net after just five minutes.

United’s top-scorer finished confidently from inside the penalty area for her 14th goal of the campaign, giving the hosts the perfect start.

Lumsden was denied by Olivia Smith’s block after 13 minutes, but the table-toppers already looked threatening.

Zoe Barratt was particularly lively and advanced to shoot wide of the far post.

Lumsden was again thwarted late in the half, this time by the feet of goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill, before McLachlan increased the lead.

Ipswich gave the ball away in a dangerous area and the winger capitalised, finding the corner to put United 2-0 up a minute before the break.

Brasero-Carreira almost halved the deficit in first-half stoppage-time, but the U’s went three goals to the good early in the second half when Baker scored on the rebound.

Ipswich made all three changes in the next 20 minutes and spent plenty of time in United territory.

But they only got on the scoresheet 15 minutes from time, Barratt pulling the ball back for Brasero-Carreira to find the top corner.

Maddie Biggs went close late on as Ipswich tried to set up a grand finale, but United held out to end the calendar year on a high.
