BANBURY United rewarded a bumper crowd with three points as they stretched their lead at the top of Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.

The Puritans welcomed 1,221 supporters through the turnstiles for their home game against Stratford Town and the majority went home smiling, thanks to Jack Stevens’s first-half penalty.

The 1-0 win stretched Banbury’s advantage over second-placed Coalville Town to eight points, after their rivals lost 1-0 at Barwell.

Andy Whing’s men were in control during the first period, with Morgan Roberts particularly lively before Stevens converted from the spot late in the half.

It opened up after the restart, but Banbury held on to make it five straight wins.

In Division 1 Central, Conor McDonagh scored four times as high-flying North Leigh thrashed Kidlington 7-0.

The Millers were three goals to the good inside 12 minutes, with Roger James finding the net twice either side of a McDonagh strike.

The latter bagged his second after Jefferson Louis made it 4-0 before the break.

McDonagh completed his hat-trick with the second half just 13 minutes old and added another late on.

Elsewhere, Leigh Bedwell saved a stoppage-time penalty as Didcot Town won 1-0 at Wantage Town.

Noah Alabi scored the only goal on the half-hour mark.

Thame United’s trip to Aylesbury United was washed out.
