OXFORD United will have to show plenty of character at Wycombe Wanderers this afternoon, says Karl Robinson.

The U’s make the short trip down the M40 to take on their Sky Bet League One promotion rivals, who sit three positions and six points above them in the table.

Sixth-placed United are yet to win in 2022, while Wycombe are unbeaten this year, but Robinson says his side are relishing the challenge.

The U’s head coach said: “They’re excited as well as frustrated.

“We’re coming up against a really good team, who are very strong in what they do and aggressive in all forms of the game.

“It’s part of their DNA that they’re a very close unit.

“I speak about how close our team is and you can clearly see it in the way they celebrate together and fight for each other.

“We know it’s going to be a difficult game, one of the hardest away trips of the season."

With a sold-out away end roaring United on it should be a cracking atmosphere, but Marcus McGuane insists they will treat it like any other match.

The midfielder said: “We try to say that every game: let’s not get caught up in the occasion too much.

“Wherever a team is in the league and the local history, you try to put that to the side and focus on the task at hand.

“The main thing is picking up the three points, those things don’t really matter.”
