OXFORD United are reaching out to fans’ groups to help them improve the atmosphere at the Kassam Stadium.

The U’s regularly welcomed 10,000-plus crowds to Grenoble Road in the second half of the season as they recorded their highest average league attendance at the ground.

Some memorable occasions were enhanced by supporters’ group the Oxford Fanatics, who have added welcome colour to the stadium with their displays in recent months.

The three-sided ground is not conducive to holding in the noise, but United managing director Niall McWilliams is keen to work with fans to improve the experience.

“It’s important young fans within Oxfordshire buy into our football club,” he said.

“We want to get more of a raucous atmosphere in here and I think that’s not necessarily all the fans’ responsibility, I also believe it’s the football club’s responsibility.

“We’ve met with OxVox, we’ve met with the supporters’ panel.

“We’re hoping to meet with the Fanatics to ask what we can do to drive up ticket sales and get a much better atmosphere in the stadium.”

The club met with independent supporters’ trust OxVox after the final game of the season against Doncaster Rovers.

United had already spoken to Oxford United Supporters Panel, which is tasked with improving fan experience, among other issues.

The club yesterday opened season ticket renewals for 2022/23, with fans given until 3pm on Monday, June 6 to secure their seat for the new campaign.

Season tickets will then go on general sale at 1pm on Tuesday, June 7.
