OISIN Smyth will join up with the senior Northern Ireland squad next week for a training camp at St George’s Park.

The Oxford United midfielder has featured regularly for the Under 21s in the last year and will now gain experience with some of his country’s top players.

It could see Smyth train alongside full internationals Gavin Whyte and Ciaron Brown, who were loaned to the U’s from Cardiff City this season.

“I’m looking forward to next week,” he told United's official website.

“It’s a chance to be around the senior group and nice to be part of that.

“I’ve learned a lot over the last few months at Oxford.

"Obviously I have had to be patient, but at the same time I have worked hard and feel like I have now made that adjustment to full-time football: Gavin Whyte, Mark Sykes and Luke McNally all had a similar experience when they came over to Oxford and they have been great with me, telling me to be patient and be ready when I do get my chance.

“Hopefully I can meet up with the Northern Ireland squad and continue to learn from experiences like this.”

The 22-year-old joined United for an undisclosed fee on January transfer deadline day, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Smyth is seen as one for the future and is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

Northern Ireland are preparing to play four Nations League matches in the first fortnight of next month.

They start their League C, Group 2 campaign at home to Greece on June 2, before home and away games against Cyprus sandwich a trip Kosovo.
