JODI Jones scored Oxford United’s fifth goal in a comfortable win over Vanarama National League side Eastleigh.

The trialist had only been on the pitch ten minutes when he curled into the top corner to complete victory at the Silverlake Stadium.

Marcus Browne’s quickfire double put United in charge at half-time, with Steve Seddon volleying home the third goal and Cameron Brannagan proving as deadly as ever from the penalty spot.

Substitute Danny Whitehall briefly made it 2-1, before the U’s moved up a gear to claim a fifth successive pre-season win ahead of their three friendlies against English Football League sides.

Karl Robinson named his strongest available starting line-up in the absence of Sam Long, Sam Baldock and Alex Gorrin.

Meanwhile, former U’s centre back Aaron Martin faced his old side following his move from Port Vale last week.

With United yet to unveil their new kit, the visitors wore navy shirts, shorts and socks and started in a 4-3-3 formation, with Marcus McGuane in the deeper midfield role.

The former Barcelona man was almost at fault for an Eastleigh opener as he sold Anthony Forde short inside six minutes, allowing Vincent Harper to steal possession. He raced into the penalty area but rolled the shot past the far post.

United soon settled and enjoyed a spell of complete control, with Browne twice making their dominance count.

The forward showed pace and strength to beat Brennan Camp to a pass and raced towards the penalty area. He fed Matty Taylor, who did well to give the ball back as he fell to the ground, and Browne fired inside Joe McDonnell’s near post.

Tristan Abrahams had a half-chance when he flicked goalwards from Ryan Hill’s cross, but it was soon 2-0.

Bodin spotted Taylor’s run and the striker crossed into the six-yard box, where Browne arrived to finish.

Eastleigh began to regain a foothold around the half-hour mark and the lively Hill saw his effort deflect wide off Ciaron Brown after Harper dispossessed Forde.

Browne almost had a first-half hat-trick when he drifted off his wing to play a give and go with Billy Bodin as he raced into the box. The former West Ham United man poked the ball past McDonnell, but the goalkeeper stretched backwards to scoop it off the line.

Eastleigh’s captain Martin flicked a header wide after a short corner shortly before the break, but United were relatively comfortable.

The hosts made three changes at the break and one of the substitutes soon pulled a goal back.

It was a poor one to concede from United’s perspective, with Harper given too much time to cross and Whitehall winning the header comfortably to loop the ball over Jack Stevens.

It took the U’s just four minutes to restore the two-goal advantage and it was all too easy. Bodin fed Browne from a short corner and the forward nonchalantly clipped a cross to the back post, where Seddon was waiting to volley home.

Browne had been the best player on the pitch and came off for Jones on the hour mark to give the trialist another chance to shine.

The starting U’s team did not have long left to make their mark and Brannagan ensured he got on the scoresheet midway through the second half.

George Langston bundled Taylor over inside the box and United’s No 8 was just as clinical as last season from the penalty spot, sending McDonnell the wrong way.

Jones joined the party four minutes later with the goal of the night. The U’s broke incisively and Seddon’s cross was blocked out to the trialist, who curled a delightful effort into the top corner.

The mass changes came with 11 minutes left as everyone other than Stevens and Jones came off, with United’s youngsters seeing out victory.
