OXFORD City ended pre-season with a goalless draw at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Both sides struck the woodwork at the Cyncoed Campus, but defences proved to be on top in the Welsh capital.

City will now turn their attention to the opening weekend of the Vanarama National League South season when they host Concord Rangers on Saturday.

Against Cardiff, the home side hit the woodwork with a set-piece in the first half, before Danny Rowe saw his own free-kick well saved.

City’s summer signing was then denied for a second time on 65 minutes, seeing his rasping effort tipped over.

Mark Jones’s side could have won it late on as Nana Owusu’s cross was headed against the bar by a Cardiff defender, before Zac McEachran had an effort saved.

Banbury United were beaten 2-1 at home by Swindon Supermarine.

Lester Davies’s fine finish put the Puritans into a tenth-minute lead.

But Supermarine fought back and two goals in the space of eight second-half minutes earned the visitors victory.

Banbury continue their BetVictor Southern League Premier Central preparations with a friendly against Oxford United’s under 23 side tomorrow night.

Oxfordshire’s Division 1 Central sides were also in action.

Brett Gardner scored twice as Didcot Town beat Ardley United 3-0 away from home.

Louis Noble was also on the scoresheet for the Railwaymen, who host Highworth Town in their final friendly on Saturday.

North Leigh earned a 3-1 home win over Dunstable Town.

George Seacole, Aaron Woodley and Tyriq Hunte found the net.

The Millers are next in action on Thursday when they welcome Ardley to Eynsham Park.

Wantage Town earned a 3-1 home win over Shrivenham.

Strikes from Jack Dunmall and Jack Buchanan, as well as own goal, saw last season’s Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division champions earn victory.

Lewis Petrie scored a late consolation for Shrivenham.

Wantage have also strengthened their squad with the signing of goalkeeper Charlie McCready from Hungerford Town.

They finish their pre-season schedule with a short trip to Abingdon Town tomorrow night.

Kaylem Patterson’s 82nd-minute goal proved in vain as Kidlington fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Highworth Town.

Julian McCalmon was also busy strengthening his squad over the weekend with the signings of striker Jamal Smith and former North Leigh defender Kyreece Martei.
