Wantage Town claimed their first points of the season at the 19th time of asking with a 1-0 win over Oxfordshire rivals North Leigh.

Chances were at a premium during a goalless first half, but the hosts gave themselves a platform to get off the mark when Sydney Ibie fired home six minutes after the break.

And the Alfredians held on to make it a perfect start to 2020.

Elsewhere, Dan West scored his 150th Thame United goal in the 3-0 win over Oxfordshire rivals Kidlington.

The hosts should have gone ahead after 20 minutes, but Ryan Blake was thwarted by Christian Lawrence when put through one-on-one and Greg Hackett hit the rebound over the crossbar.

But with half an hour played Ben Sturgess made no mistake, firing high into the net for the opening goal of the afternoon.

Hackett had an effort ruled out soon after, but there was nothing wrong with the strike that saw West reach his milestone on 43 minutes.

The striker met Blake’s cross and finished expertly to put Thame in charge.

Three minutes into the second half, Lawrence again saved when faced with a one-on-one, this time from Hackett.

Kidlington continued to fight, but Blake put the game beyond doubt with a low shot in the 74th minute to extend Thame’s unbeaten run to eight games.

Didcot Town conceded a 90th-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 at home to Aylesbury United.

The hosts went ahead on the stroke of half-time, George Reid beating the goalkeeper with ease from the penalty spot.

Aylesbury went close with 14 minutes remaining, before Jack Dark and Seth Humphries had chances to put the game to bed.

And the visitors made the most of the let off as Ken Feyi equalised in the dying moments.

In the Premier Division, Banbury United squandered a lead to go down 2-1 against the ten men of Barwell.

Ravi Shamsi struck for the second game in succession as Mike Ford’s men went ahead with a quarter of an hour played.

The hosts posed a growing threat, but the away side’s grip on the game appeared to tighten when Barwell’s Micah Edwards was sent off.

Pablo Haysham was the victim of the heavy challenge that warranted a straight red card.

But they were soon pegged back as Tolani Omotola converted from 12 yards to level the scores before the break.

Both teams went close at the start of the second half, Shamsi missing Banbury’s chance when he headed over from six yards out.

He was made to pay on 61 minutes, with Tristan Dunkley’s stunning lob from 25 yards beating Harding.

Morgan Roberts twice went close as Banbury tried to force an equaliser, but the visitors remained under the cosh and Barwell saw out the game.
