BANBURY United are targeting a tilt at the play-offs ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Biggleswade Town in BetVictor Southern League Premier Division Central.

Last weekend’s 2-0 win over Stourbridge left the Puritans five points outside the top five.

And manager Mike Ford insists his team will be spurred on by last season’s four-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player.

He said: “This time last year, we had the rug pulled from under our feet around this time with the points deduction, which really knocked the stuffing out of us.

“But this year, we’ve got lots and lots to play for and our goal is certainly the top five.”

The victory over Stourbridge was Banbury’s first league victory since January 4 and Ford, who names an unchanged squad tomorrow, said it had given the club a timely lift.

He said: “We’ve slipped up, but other teams will slip up too.

“We’ve picked up four points in our last two games, and we now need to back that up with another three points tomorrow.

“Momentum is gained by stringing results together, it’s as simple as that.”

Ford added: “We have to play Biggleswade like its more important to us than it is to them.

“We need to work hard to get our rewards, but there’s a real belief in the club, and we want to enjoy the experience.”

In Division 1 Central, Didcot Town host Coleshill Town looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Barton Rovers.

Cameron McNeill is suspended after being sent off on Saturday, while Jack Longford (thigh) is 50-50.

North Leigh host AFC Dunstable off the back of their impressive triumph over Aylesbury United.

With 13 league games still remaining in the final two months of the campaign, joint manager Craig Dore believes a win could set up a play-off challenge.

“We’ve always thought we were in with a shout, and the win last weekend against Aylesbury has given us even more belief,” he said.

“We should have been three or four up by half time, but in the second half when they came at us, we defended properly and ground out a good result.”

“We need to try and win as many as we can, because it will be a tough run-in and Dunstable are a strong and physical side.”

Callum McNish (hamstring) is the only absentee for the Millers.

Mark Flanagan, Jacob Davidge and Tom Franklin return for Kidlington’s home game against Welwyn Garden City, but Tommy Castle (hamstring) is still out.

Manager Ben Sadler said: “It would be great to get some more fans through the gate on Saturday.

“Our support base is small, but incredibly supportive and we are so grateful for those who give up their Saturday’s to support the team.”

Meanwhile, Wantage Town entertain Daventry Town.
