OXFORD City’s defence should see the absence of captain Joe Oastler against Shrewsbury Town as an opportunity, says David Oldfield.

The Vanarama National League South club’s captain is suspended for tomorrow’s Emirates FA Cup second round visit to the Sky Bet League One side after he was sent off in last weekend’s draw with Eastbourne Borough.

Oldfield has not decided who will replace City’s skipper in his back line for the televised clash, but called on his defence to take their chance.

He said: “We’ll miss Joe’s experience and leadership, but he’ll be part of the group that travels up and be important in our preparations.

“The other boys will have to step up and take the opportunity.”

Shrewsbury yesterday announced former Birmingham City boss Steve Cotterill as their new manager after parting ways with Sam Ricketts earlier this week.
