WINGER Morgan Williams volunteered for a new role after North Leigh were hit by a goalkeeping crisis for their trip to Yate Town.

First-choice keeper Manny Agboola was injured for the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West fixture, while Lewis Clayton was recalled by parent club Cheltenham Town at short notice.

Williams filled in between the posts and did a fair job, but the Millers, who were also missing Stuart Hole and Matt Sysum, lost 3-2.

Jack Ball’s looping header gave the hosts a half-time lead, which was stretched by the same player early in the second half.

Mayson Evans added the third goal, before North Leigh rallied after the hour mark.

Roger James fired home and Michael Hopkins hit the bar before finding the net.

In the final 16 minutes, the Millers could not find an equaliser.

It ended a five-game winning streak which had been stretched by a 4-2 home win over Barnstaple Town last Tuesday.

Lance Williams, George Seacole, James and Hopkins were on target that night.

North Leigh: M Williams, Lymn, Wellon, Thomas, D James, Gunn, R James, L Williams, Seacole, Cook (Turk 57), Hopkins. Subs not used: Tinsley, Hole, Wyatt.

Attendance: 144.

North Leigh have missed out on a trip to the Kassam Stadium, which was unavailable to host the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final.

The final, against Oxford United, will now be held on Tuesday, April 25, at Thame United’s ASM Stadium.
