ALEX Staples will remain with Oxford City Stars for a third season.

The 29-year-old has agreed to extend his stay at Oxpens, saying a chat to head coach Simon Anderson convinced him not to go elsewhere.

“Having spoken to Simon over the summer and heard his plans for the club, it was an easy decision for me to re-sign and be a part of a much broader project here,” he said.

“The fans and players have really welcomed me with open arms since moving here and I’m looking forward to seeing where we can go this season.”

Anderson added: “I’m delighted to have Alex back in a Stars’ jersey.

“He is an experienced guy, who not only reads the game well, but makes smart plays and decisions, both with and without the puck.

“Alex will be a big part of our leadership group and be given the responsibility of leading by example in the room and on the ice.”

“He has won championships pretty much wherever he has played and knows what it takes to win.

“I’m sure the rest of the guys are excited as I am to have Alex back at Oxpens.”
