North Leigh midfielder Callum McNish was denied a late winner by the width of a post in a thriller at Evesham in Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

With seconds remaining and the sides locked at 2-2, McNish thought he had got the clincher when his shot beat the keeper Kevin Sawyer, only to hit a post.

North Leigh were quickly out of the blocks and should have gone ahead on 13 minutes when Morgan Williams broke clear and drew Sawyer, only to shoot wide.

The Millers went ahead on 18 minutes. Conor Ingram was fouled by Will Wellon and Stuart Hole lashed the resulting free-kick past Sawyer.

Williams had a great chance to make it 2-0, but scooped an Aaron Woodley through ball over from three yards.

Evesham levelled two minutes before the break through Aaron Drake’s header.

The Millers retook the lead, when a mistake from Matt Sysum saw McNish clip the ball past Sawyer from five yards.

Evesham upped the pace and equalised when substitute Harry Williams stabbed home from close range.

Millers keeper Matt Bulman then pulled off two excellent saves as Evesham pushed for another goal.

However, it was the visitors who went closest to snatching a winner, only for McNish’s right foot shot to hit the woodwork before bouncing away to safety.
