NORTH Leigh boss Mark Gee believes his side are an attractive proposition for potential new signings.
The Millers currently top Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West, but with a threadbare squad – they named just three players on the bench for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Larkhall Athletic – Gee is looking for new additions in the next week.
“There’s no better position to be in than top of the league when it comes to recruiting players from a similar level,” said Gee.
“When you’re at your strongest, you are more attractive to new signings, because who wouldn’t want to come in to a winning side?”
The visitors struck three goals in a 17-minute blitz during the first half to destroy visitors Larkhall.
Two strikes from Morgan Williams and another from Elliott Osborne-Ricketts helped the Millers extend their lead in Division 1 South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League to two points.
Elliott Osborne-Ricketts fires home North Leigh’s second goal in their 3-0 victory against Larkhall Athletic
Larkhall, who completed the double over Mark Gee’s team last season without conceding a goal, were completely outclassed.
The hosts opened the scoring after 12 minutes when a dipping swerving effort by Kieran Sanders from 25 yards was parried by keeper Kyle Phillips out to Osborne-Ricketts.
His shot was deflected by Phillips to Williams, who crashed it home from close range.
With their tails up, Leigh attacked at every opportunity and a cheeky lobbed shot by skipper Wayne Turk from halfway drifted just wide of a post.
Osborne-Ricketts made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when he finished off some good work by Sanders.
Nine minutes later, the game was effectively over as Williams netted from close range after a smooth move down the left.
Larkhall’s best moments came from striker Dean Griffiths, who was denied by home keeper James Foster.
Sanders continued to prove a threat in the second half, shooting wide, while Sam Elkins saw a shot cannon off a defenders’ legs.
North Leigh are in action again tonight when they entertain Oxfordshire rivals Banbury United in Division 1 South & West.
North Leigh: Foster, Elkins, Hopkins, Turk, Westlake, Hole, Woodley (Else 75), Osborne-Ricketts, Sanders (White 88), McNish, Williams. Sub not used: Cook.
