NORTH Leigh climbed to second in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West table after a hard-fought 2-0 victory at ten-man Mangotsfield United on Saturday.
After an even opening half-hour, the match turned on the dismissal of Lewis Hogg.
Hogg had been booked for a series of fouls, and when he brought down Millers striker Kieran Sanders, referee William Bull had no option other than to produce a second yellow card.
It did not take long for North Leigh to make their numerical advantage count.
Callum McNish threaded a lovely ball through to Wayne Turk, who made no mistake and put the visitors ahead.
They doubled their lead a minute later in slightly controversial circumstances.
While the hosts argued with the referee over a free-kick, Elliott Osborne-Ricketts clipped a ball in to McNish who fired home.
Despite vehement protests from Mangotsfield, the goal stood.
The hosts struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the second half as the Millers comfortably held on.
North Leigh: Foster, Elkins (Else 84), Hopkins, Turk, Westlake, Hole, Davies, Osborne-Ricketts, Cook (Williams 66), Sanders, McNish. Sub not used: White.
Attendance: 140.
