NORTH Leigh manager Mark Gee is looking forward to renewing old rivalries after his side were handed a short trip to Carterton in the quarter-finals of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.

The West Oxfordshire derby was a regular fixture around the turn of the century, but the Millers’ promotion into the Southern League in 2008 brought an end to regular competitive fixtures.

“It’s our proper derby, so it’s one I’m looking forward to,” said Gee.

“The two sides used to meet regularly and there was a real rivalry when we were both at the top of the Hellenic League.

“Obviously since then we’ve gone one way and they’ve gone the other, so it’ll be nice to rekindle the derby after a few years apart.”

The tie has to be played by February 18, leaving North Leigh with a packed schedule.

Poor weather has scuppered recent fixtures, with Saturday’s Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West match at home to Bishops Cleeve postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

This means it will have to be rearranged for a midweek evening.

This Saturday, the Millers are away to Bridgwater Town.
