MATT Williams has praised Greg Goodfellow after naming the scrum half in the Chinnor XV to face Darlington Mowden Park tomorrow.

The Scot is set for his second start of the season as the Thame-based side travel to County Durham in National League 1.

Goodfellow, a key member of the Chinnor team which won promotion last season, has featured in only three of the opening eight games of this campaign, with Josh Barton and Dave Brazier preferred at nine.

But he has impressed as a replacement in the last two weeks, earning him a start at The Darlington Arena.

Director of rugby Williams said: “Greg started the season in a position in the pecking order he would not have wanted to be in and he has kept his head down and worked.

“He came off the bench the last two weeks and did very well and through his good performances he has forced a competition to start at nine.”

Goodfellow is among four changes, one positional, with Jack Gilding and Will Bordill returning, while Joe Dancer moves to blind-side flanker.

Sixth-placed Chinnor head into tomorrow’s fixture on the back of a 20-20 draw against Old Elthamians which ended a run of back-to-back defeats.

Despite not picking up a victory since September 29, bonus points have kept them in touch with the leaders in a division where the top 11 are separated by just seven.

Williams added: “We need to keep picking up points and our away form is better than our home form.

“We will go there with the intention of coming away with points and how many we get will be up to the players.”

In National League 2 South, third-placed Henley Hawks eye a fifth win in a row when they travel to Redruth.

But their strong run will come under threat in Cornwall as the hosts have won all three of their fixtures at the Recreation Ground, averaging 31 points.

Witney travel to Swindon for a bottom-of-the-table clash in South West 1 East.

Both sides are still looking for their first victory of the season after seven games, while the west Oxfordshire outfit are already six points adrift of safety.

Jake Edwards, Carl Strutt, James Merriman and Dan Wakeman are handed starts, while Ben Fisk, Calum Godfrey and Rob Coe are unavailable.

Pete Alston and Fotu Latu return as Oxford Harlequins look to preserve their 100 per cent home record when they take on Beaconsfield.

Banbury will look to build on ending a three-match winless run last weekend when they travel to Royal Wootton Bassett.

Meanwhile, Oxford University face the Royal Navy at Iffley Road tonight (7.15), with captain Dom Waldouck unavailable for the fixture.

But last year’s captain Conor Kearns takes his place at inside centre, while Ollie Adams, Charlie Pozniak and Ben Ransom also start.
