CARL Campbell’s late try earned Witney a 25-24 win at Trowbridge in South West 1 East.

Scores from Lee Fairclough and Lewis Jordan, Tom Weaver converting, saw the hosts lead 14-0 after 21 minutes.

But Witney reduced the deficit to seven points at half-time, when Rikki Dore dived over and Ted Landray converted.

Two Landray penalties saw Witney close to within a point.

And they went 20-14 ahead, when Andy Melbourne crossed, Landray converting.

Trowbridge hit back through James MacFarlane, Weaver converting, before the latter kicked a penalty to make it

24-20 with 11 minutes to go.

But Witney dug in to secure victory, Campbell going over in the third minute of added time.

Oxford Harlequins fell to their first home defeat when losing 45-22 to Marlborough.

The visitors led 12-0 after 11 minutes, thanks to tries from Ashley Homer and Inosi Laqekoro, Will Grant converting the first.

Quins’s Jack Crowe replied, James Stacey converting.

But Marlborough made it 19-7 through Henry Webster, Grant adding the extras.

Quins reduced the arrears, thanks to tries from Stacey and Ben Ralton.

However, Homer’s second try, converted by Grant, made it 26-17 at the break.

Marlborough raced into a 23-point lead, when Mitieli Vulikijapani and Viliame Waqanidrola dived over, Grant adding the extras.

Quins hit back to claim a four-try bonus point through Crowe, but there was still time for the visitors to cross again, Joe Visei going over.

Banbury beat Stratford upon Avon 47-26 away.

Tries from Tommy Gray, Sam Stoop and Duncan Leese, Ed Phillips converting, saw Bulls lead 21-5 at the break.

It was soon 33-5, when Tom Burman and Leese crossed, Phillips converting the latter.

Stratford hit straight back, but Phillips converted his own try for Banbury.

The hosts dug in to reduce the arrears again, before Bulls scored try No 7 through Ian Isham, Phillips adding the extras.

Stratford crossed late on, but Banbury were out of sight.
