CAMPAIGNERS marched through the streets of Oxford to protest against cuts at the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Mums and dads joined hands with campaigners and councillors around the city centre today.

The demonstration was planned by the 12,000-strong Save Our Horton campaign after Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced the maternity unit could become midwife-led in September due to staffing issues, meaning expectant mothers facing complications would be transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

About 30 to 50 people were in Bonn Square and in Cornmarket Street handing out leaflets.

Desley Ayers and her son Archie, three, were among the campaigners.

The 43-year-old said the aim of today's protest in Oxford was to raise awareness of the impact cuts to the Horton could have on residents.

She added: "If they cut Banbury, the John Radcliffe Hospital is going to have to take all those patients.

"The whole county needs to be aware of it and what is being done to our NHS.

"There are a lot of people in Banbury worrying about this."
